I’ve been running most of my adult life, but I couldn't outrun the one problem every distance runner eventually encounters: the plastic taste of new flasks, the funky water in old ones, sloshing bottles, and gear that never seems to get truly clean.

I set out to fix it. I realized the perfect "clean flask" already existed: the fresh, sealed water bottles readily available at any store or gas station. I wanted to use those instead.

But I quickly discovered a problem. Almost every brand of off-the-shelf disposable water bottle uses different threads, making a "universal" threaded cap nearly impossible. The thread issue felt like a dead end.

Then, a mechanical engineer friend said the line that changed everything: “Don’t thread it.”

I shelved it again for a few years… until it finally clicked: plug and seal the bottle from the inside with food-grade silicone.

Training in the oppressive Central Florida heat means hydration has to be clean, reliable, and ready. Expensive soft flasks are a breeding ground for mold and bacteria. I wanted something simpler I could trust instantly.

Critically, I needed it to work universally - clean bottles replacing flasks, fitting seamlessly into hydration vests, running belts, and my go-to: the Naked Running Band.

After years of testing prototypes on long runs and full marathons - including the brutally steep Pikes Peak Marathon - the solution is here. I built HydroByte™, a tiny two-piece device that turns almost any disposable bottle into motion-stable hydration—leak-free, mold-free, and ready to run.
